An interactive window into the restoration process
19 July, 2024/Museums and Exhibitions
The restoration area of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid has an innovative interactive platform on the museum’s website that brings its work closer to professionals and the general public.
DigaliX has collaborated in the development of a webapp that allows users to explore the restoration process of some of the most iconic masterpieces in the museum’s collection.
Exploring art through interactive resources
The last of the works that can be explored through the webapp is ‘The Virgin of Humility’ by Fra Angelico, a Renaissance masterpiece owned by the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection and on deposit at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC ). The incredible restoration work by the museum team has restored it to all its splendor.
Other restored works that DigaliX has developed in webapp format are St. Mark’s Square in Venice, by Canaletto, The Game of Cards, by Balthus, and Young Knight in a Landscape, by Carpaccio.
Works in detail
The visitor will have interactive access to the technical study and the restoration process of the works with an informative resource that highlights the importance of the work carried out by the museum’s restoration department for the recovery and conservation of each painting.
XTable, another interactive tool
The Thyssen Museum in Madrid also has an interactive XTable as another tool for disseminating the restoration work and technical studies when presenting the intervened works to the public.
Make art accesible
The collaboration with the Museum’s Restoration Department, led by Ubaldo Sedano, Susana Pérez and Ana Arreaza, is a unique and motivating work, which also represents a discovery for us with each project and each development.
Through interactive digital tools, not only are the public educated about the importance of restoration, but they also contribute to a greater appreciation and understanding of art.
This webapp represents the perfect union between art and technology, offering users a very enriching informative experience.
