New interactive resources at CosmoCaixa with the advances in research against blindness
11 October, 2017/Gamification, Museums and Exhibitions, Software Development
Age-related macular degeneration (ARMD or AMD) is the most common cause of blindness in developed countries. This is one of the eye diseases explained at CosmoCaixa as part of the new Top Ciencia exhibition: Retina. New treatments to heal blindness.
For this purpose, the entity Obra Social La Caixa has been in collaboration with the Barcelona Macula Foundation (BMF) and the Institut de la Màcula (IM), which carry out research against these pathologies. From DigaliX, we have worked along with them to elaborate two kinds of interactive resources:
– A game to learn about degenerative retinal diseases and to participate in the development of a therapy that heals macular degeneration. There you will find our virtual assistant turned into a scientist from the BMF to guide the visitor during the activity.
– A chronogram that displays the evolution of the eye studies throughout the history as well as the therapies developed to treat eye diseases.
Thanks to Top Ciencia and its educational exhibitions, we can get to know better the important advances that science reaches in order to improve our quality of life. In this case, it shows us how close the healing of certain types of blindness might be.
